In this pilot project, an offshore test platform is to be developed which enables innovative and promising electrolysis and power-to-x concepts to be tested and further developed under real conditions offshore in individual process steps and as an integrated process chain with the aim of investigating the interaction between the selected processes and plant components.
PtX processes include the production of methane (LNG), methanol, hydrocarbons (Fischer-Tropsch) and ammonia. The comprehensive view of the selected plants and process concepts covers all relevant research questions from material investigations and operating modes to safety and environmental concepts. The complex implementation of offshore electrolysis and PtX processes requires the examination of complex questions regarding water management, infrastructure, integration and control. A central issue is evaluating suitable pre-selected options on how to implement the platform idea.
